Thailand has suspended operations at all border crossings in Sa Kaeo province.

The First Army Area of Thailand has ordered the immediate suspension of operations at all border crossings in Sa Kaeo province starting June 23, 2025. The order, signed by Lieutenant General Amarit Boonsuya, Commander of the First Army Area, will remain in effect until further notice. The decision was made due to escalating tensions with Cambodia and a rise in transnational crime. Previously, there were reports of violations of Thai sovereignty by Cambodian military forces. These violations included patrolling, fortifying positions, altering terrain, and conducting symbolic activities involving civilians along the border in areas under the jurisdiction of the Second Army Area. These actions led to increased tensions and raised concerns about public safety. Additionally, the First Army Area cited the growing threat of transnational crimes, such as call center fraud and hybrid schemes, which have caused significant harm to people and property. The suspension affects all major border checkpoints in Sa Kaeo, including the Aranyaprathet-Poipet crossing, which is a key route for trade and tourism, as well as the Ban Khao Din-Ban Laem and Ban Nong Ian-Stung Bot checkpoints. All vehicle crossings and movement of people, including Thai and foreign tourists, as well as commercial activities, are prohibited. Exceptions will be made for urgent humanitarian needs, such as emergency medical care, patient transport, and essential education for students. Thai authorities urge residents and travelers to comply with the restrictions and monitor updates as the situation develops.
